Erica Boatman
Erica has spent the majority of her adulthood nerding out on food. She reads cookbooks like other people read novels. She is constantly using her friends as guinea pigs for the elaborate menus she develops, or collaborating with her sister, a dietician, to create weekly wellness meal plans for her family members with health issues. Her favorite part of the week is going to the farmers market and striking up a conversation about how to cook a vegetable varietal she’s never seen before with the person who grew it themself.
So when she realized how unhappy she was in her decade-long career in marketing, doing event planning, graphic and web design, and content creation for fashion and commercial interior design businesses, she decided to quit and do what brings her joy: cooking delicious meals for people, supporting and promoting slow food artisans and local farmers, and learning about cultures through the lens of what we eat.
She started her transition into a food career by cooking at restaurants in her hometown of Kansas City in the U.S., then attending the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Piemonte, getting her Master of Gastronomy degree in World Food Cultures and Mobility. She is now living in Firenze with her cat, Trixie, where she is a freelance writer and editor.
